GIRLS ON FIRE FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

GIRLS ON FIRE - Our Girls Flag Football League

My daughter has never played football. Do players need experience?

Absolutely not. We love beginners! One of our goals is to teach girls how to play the game and develop their love for this sport.

Is flag football safe?

Yes, it’s non-contact and supervised by trained coaches.

What equipment is required?

Just cleats — we provide flags, shorts, and jerseys.

Is jewelry ok?

In general, jewelry is not allowed, but if your player must wear earrings (e.g., they just got their ears pierced), stud earrings covered with tape or bandages are ok.

How long are the games?

Games are 25 minutes (two 12-minute halves). Teams will play two games during each session. Our format follows most nationally recognized tournament formats and will prepare girls who may go on to play in tournaments or club programs. If you’re interested in the detailed rules, we will most likely follow the rules on the USA Flag website (scroll to “Youth 5v5 Standard Rules”).

What if my child can’t make every game?

We encourage players to attend as many games as possible to learn and get the most out of the experience, and ensure we have enough players for full games. However, we understand kids may occasionally have other obligations.

Will there be practices?

Yes, there will be a 15-minute practice prior to the games.

What team am I on?

Rosters will be finalized the weekend of December 13-14. We aim to group athletes with others from their school, but there may be some mixing depending on numbers. We’ll do our best to honor requests, but can’t make any promises.

Will the games be against other leagues?

GIRLS ON FIRE - Marin Heat’s girls' league - will only play teams within our league. However, there may be opportunities for some teams to scrimmage other clubs throughout the season.

Do you offer scholarships?

Marin Heat welcomes athletes from low-income families to participate in our scholarship program. Please email us to learn more.
